Our Breeding Program
When I became interested in this breed, I was extremely lucky to have lived near several successful breeders with whom I could spend time and who shared their knowledge with me. I was also able to have “hands-on”experience with many of the dogs who were used in breeding programs at the start of the Chinese Crested’s acceptance by AKC. Through research on my own and the help of these breeders, I was able to form in my mind, the type of Crested that I was interested in showing and breeding and I made a conscious decision to focus on health, temperament and correct movement in my own program.
After 11 years of actively breeding litters, I have made the decision to take a break from breeding any litters myself. I currently co-own several bitches with other breeders, and they will be the ones to carry on with Wickhaven dogs for the time being.
We have two youngsters who are starting their show careers this year, and at this time, I am putting my focus on their training and showing. Also, we have several retired and older dogs that deserve to have as much love and attention as we can give them for the rest of their lives. By limiting the number of young dogs we have, those older dogs who have given so much to me in their lives will still have plenty of attention.
More than anything else since my involvement with the Chinese Crested began, I enjoy seeing the contributions that Wickhaven dogs have made in other breeder’s programs. Sharing their successes in the show ring and their excitement at the prospect of a new litter is nearly as satisfying as breeding one myself.
If you are considering purchasing a Crested and would like help in finding a reputable breeder, I would be happy to assist you. Please just drop me an email and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
